LIBERTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PLAYER AND COACH OF THE YEAR FOR 2008

BREAKING NEWS:

To say that the Liberty football coaching staff is a fairly impressive group is a bit of an understatement. They have a pair of highly-regarded former head coaches in Jim Tkach and Bill DeNofa.
There are former college stars in Bo Orlando and Matt Senneca. Orlando also played nine seasons in the NFL with Houston, San Diego, Cincinnati and Pittsburgh.

No matter what their credentials, however, all of these accomplished men with football backgrounds are impressed with what 38-year old head coach Tim Moncman has built in his nine seasons leading the Hurricanes.

"Timmy's a very, very intelligent guy," Orlando said, "and I'm not always sure that comes across. He watches film religiously and he's a defensive mastermind. I don't think people realize the schemes he puts together ... some are difficult for a high school kid, but he's just so good at teaching them. He doesn't like to take a lot of credit but he's a really good coach."

Moncman's Hurricanes have compiled a 62-9 record over the last five seasons and played in the PIAA Class AAAA championship game three of the last four years. Liberty capped a historic season with that elusive state crown a week ago.

For his efforts, the former Freedom High School and Lafayette College standout is The Express-Times Coach of the Year.

"We've been blessed with incredible talent at Liberty," Moncman said, "and also some kids who are willing to work hard to get better."

With Moncman driving them to get better on the field, in the classroom and as young men, the Liberty football family has grown closer than ever.
