PALMERTON CANCELS SPORTS DUE TO A STUDENT DEATH

Palmerton High School has postponed today's boys and girls basketball games and tomorrow's wrestling match with Pen Argyl due to the death of a student, athletics officials said.

The Carbon County coroner ruled the death of a 16-year-old student this morning a suicide. The teen, whose name was not released, died in his home, Coroner Bruce Nalesnik said.

Palmerton was to play Salisbury High School in boys and girls basketball today; the games have not been rescheduled, said Monica Deeb, Salisbury's student activities director.

A new date hasn't been set either for Saturday's varsity and junior varsity wrestling matches at Pen Argyl, said Pen Argyl Athletic Director Dwight Repsher.
