Nazareth's Tori Hamsher named to Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman volleyball team

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Nazareth Area High School graduate Tori Hamsher, a freshman middle blocker for Virginia Tech, was one of seven players selected to the Atlantic Coast Conference All-Freshman team.

Hamsher, the 2009 Express-Times Player of the Year, was second in total blocks (99) and block assists (88) for the Hokies. She has started every match this season and has contributed 143 kills, 46 digs and eight aces.

Hamsher's stellar season helped Virginia Tech (19-10 overall, 10-10 ACC) earn its first NCAA Tournament bid. The Hokies are an at-large entry and will play CAA champion Delaware (26-5) on Friday at Penn State. The winner will meet the Penn State-Niagara victor on Saturday.

Virginia Tech's starting unit also includes junior setter Erin Leaser of Central Catholic. Leaser, a three-year starter, leads Tech with 1,274 assists.
