Special day in the Big Apple on Friday; plus Eddie McCaffrey's son has committed to Duke

FROM KEITH GROLLER

NOTE: I don't think I will be posting anything during the day on Friday because I will be in New York City for a special day the New York Yankees have in store for a Lehigh Valley resident named John Lahutsky. John, a very special young man who has already been featured on Dateline, is going to be in for a big surprise. Check out the "Today Show" on NBC10 at about 8:40 this morning to find out what I am talking about. I will have a full day, culminating with a big night at the ballpark in the Bronx. I will talk about it on Saturday morning's radio show (9-11 on AM 1470, the Fox) and will be writing on Sunday about it.

EDDIE MAC'S SON HEADED TO DUKE

This was released nationally last month, but we haven't written about it yet.

Former Central Catholic, Stanford and NFL standout Eddie McCaffrey (below) Ed McCaffrey will have a rooting interest in Duke again. That's because that's where his son, Max, is headed to play football.

Remember, Eddie's younger brother, Billy, played on Duke's 1991 national championship men's basketball team before sitting out the 1991-92 season and transferring to Vanderbilt.

I don't think Billy's career had anything to do with Max's decision. If a family member had an influence, it was probably his grandfather Dave Sime, who was a three-sport athlete at Duke and once considered the fastest man alive. Sime, who was born and raised in New Jersey, broke or tied nine world track and field records. He earned All-America honors in track and baseball at Duke.

Talk about a young man having athletic genes!

Max McCaffrey is a 6-foot-3 190 pound wide receiver from Highlands Ranch, Colorado. As a receiver and defensive back, he helped alor Christian win back-to-back 4A state championships as in his sophomore and junior seasons. He also plays basketball and runs track. He was also recruited by Arizona State, Connecticut, and Wake Forest.
