Man eludes police in car chase, runs away in Lower Nazareth Township cornfield

FROM THE EXPRESS TIMES

Colonial Regional police are searching for a man who eluded authorities, drove into a Lower Nazareth Township cornfield off Georgetown Road and escaped into a nearby woods.

Sgt. George Cuchran said police at 1:53 this afternoon tried to pull over a black Dodge truck in the 200 block of Route 191.

The driver continued north on Route 191, turned left onto Steuben Road then continued to Georgetown Road, where he locked his brakes and drove into a cornfield, police said. Police said he drove for about a mile before getting out of the vehicle and running away.

Police seized the vehicle and said it was not registered as stolen. The driver is believed to have an outstanding warrant in Northampton County, but Cuchran did not reveal the charges because the suspect's identity hasn’t been confirmed.

The suspect is described as a 34-year-old white man with brown hair and a goatee who was last seen wearing a black T-shirt and camouflage shorts. It is unclear if he is armed, Cuchran said.

Responding during the manhunt, which ended at about 5, were eight Colonial Regional and Bethlehem Township, Pa., police, in addition to a state police helicopter, the Bethlehem police K-9 unit, the Hecktown Volunteer Fire Department and Northampton County Emergency Management Services.

Cuchran said officers continue to search for the suspect, who faces charges of fleeing and eluding police.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Northampton County 911 Dispatch Center at 610-317-0808.
