A look back at the District 11 softball quarterfinals and ahead to the semis

FROM KEITH GROLLER

It wasn't easy with the weather, but the District 11 softball tournament is finally on to the semifinals.
Here's a look back at the quarterfinals, which, in some cases, stretched over two and three days.
CLASS 4A
Parkland 7, Nazareth 1 -- Trojans collect third win of the season. Courtney Miller had a two-run single in the first. Morgan Rentzheimer had her scoreless streak snapped at 53 innings on an unearned run.
Pleasant Valley 5, Freedom 4 -- Bears rallied from 4-1 deficit with a grand slam by Madison Shaneberger in the bottom of the sixth.
Northampton 8, Liberty 7 -- The Konkrete Kids avenged a previous loss to the Hurricanes. Taylor Kerbacher had a big offensive day and Liberty just made too many mistakes. Very disappointing to me is that Alyshia Dellatore, The Morning Call's rookie of the year in 2011 and an all-area player the last two years, was not there for the final game of what had been a stellar career. A violation of team rules was the reason given when I asked coach Rich Giering. Certainly in a game this close, Dellatore, who has been one of the area's best hitters over the last four years, might have made a difference.
Bangor 7, Whitehall 4 -- Slaters jumped quickly, taking a 5-0 lead after two innings. Kaitlyn Caleen had two doubles and knocked in four runs. Slaters in the district final for the first time since 2008. Whitehall finished 11-11, but has a lot of young players returning.
