The Lehigh Valley has had some great runs in the Softball Carpenter Cup in its 10-year history, but this year wasn’t one of them.
The local team earned a quick exit in the 16-team, double-elimination event for high school underclassmen sponsored by the Phillies at FDR Park near the south Philadelphia sports complex..
Lehigh Valley lost to Berks-Lancaster Lebanon 2-0 and then was eliminated with a 6-1 defeat to Delaware South.
Lehigh Valley had just three hits and made three errors in the opening defeat. They had only three hits in the second game. Of the 42 outs LV had in the two games, 27 came on strikeouts.
The locals’ lone run in the second game came when Megan Brown (Freedom) doubled to left-center, advanced to third on a single by Salisbury’s Meghan Williams and scored on a groundout by Pleasant Valley’s Maddie Shaneberger.
Brown was the only Lehigh Valley player to have a hit in both games.
